Tru Australia

Tru is an unconference. An unconventional meeting of minds and innovations for the talent, HR and recruitment community.

The Unconference format encourages collaboration, interaction, and open dialogue among the talent, TA and HR community, creating an environment that fosters innovation and exchange of ideas.

📣 Up to 28 conversational tracks* covering everything and anything in our world of work

👩‍💻 10 show and tell sessions* showcasing new tech and developments

❌ No pitches, PowerPoints, or name badges

#tru is the first and largest series of recruiting unconferences hosted by local recruiters around the globe.

In the simplest way possible, #tru events are very different from most conferences. The unique format ensures that everyone leaves with far more information, insight, tools, and confidence to take back and apply immediately in their talent activities.

Most conferences focus on speakers taking to a stage to present in a very traditional way to a typically unengaged audience. However, we recognise that this audience itself has loads of expertise that they can also share on a very wide range of talent topics.

There will be heavy focus on attendees taking an active role in managing their own learning and the community (including our sponsor vendors) being involved in the process.

  • FAQs

So what is a recruiting un-conference,?

Well, if a conference is a line-up of speakers who stand at a podium with a PowerPoint presentation, talk for 55 mins, take questions for 5 mins and then move on to the next speaker, then an un-conference is the complete opposite of that!

#tru, there are no speakers, no presentations, no podiums, and no being stuck in

    your seat all day!

We will have track leaders - Talent, HR and TA experts - to start a conversation around topics that they feel passionately about with people who share that passion.

    Tracks?

Tracks mean topics and themes, which are navigated by a track leader, who sets the direction the discussion goes.

Track leaders will run a 40-minute track on a chosen topic with participants sitting around in a circle. The track leader begins the discussion with a 5-10 minute background on their topic and then opens the topic up for discussion within the group. From then on, anyone can contribute, offer an opinion, ask questions, tell a story or even take the conversation in a different direction!

So the track leader is like a keynote speaker?

No, the track leader moderates and facilitates the discussion and keeps it alive with ideas and questions.

Tracks can go off in any direction. At times, the best insights are offered by the participants themselves, people who perhaps don’t normally get the spotlight at events but who have great insights to offer or just really interesting questions to ask.

How do those tracks you are talking about work?

So, if you now have an idea of what a “track” is, we will have three of them running concurrently at any one time so you can choose which one is most interesting to you. If you decide to move on at any point, you can get up and join another track

But I’m kinda shy and don’t want to be picked on!

You can contribute as much as you want or merely sit back and take it all in, it’s up to you. We encourage respectful conversation and debate so all can be involved, and no one should feel picked on.

So is it all just a bit chaotic then?

No, not at all. Each track leader is allocated their time, and the next set of tracks is announced to all as the previous ones are wrapping up.

Tracks with just two other people and ended up with thirty people by the end of it; you just never know.

All we ask is that everyone is respectful of other people’s opinions and to respect that debate to drive innovation and ideas.

Ok, I’m almost convinced, I’d love to go, but I can’t afford to take a whole day out of my job:

Trust me, this is better than any training you will ever pay for, and you will earn the time back tenfold. Come and go as you please, it’s your conference!

Will there be opportunities to network with track leaders and participants?

    Absolutely, that’s the whole idea!

    What the day involves

    THE CHALLENGES

We start the day by discussing the challenges that we are currently facing in relation to the topic—the demands in our role, our organisation and the external pressures that influence what we do.

    THE EXPERT

Hear from either an in-house talent professional or an expert on how they have delivered on the challenges or can give insight on how they have delivered outcomes to their business - and they don’t always get it right.

    NETWORKING

We finish the formal part of the day at two and we invite you to stay on for drinks and some great informal networking that has allowed us to build an energetic and supportive community in Australia.

    THE SOLUTIONS DISCUSSIONS

In small discussion groups look at the challenges and potential solutions in a series of round table discussions facilitated by one of our solution partners.

    BRING IT ALL TOGETHER

Finish the formal part of the day with a final group roundtable that brings it all together providing you with actionable insights and ideas you can take back to your team.
